Mardi Gras, Family Style

There is so much to celebrate this month, and we're loving it! Tuesday is Mardi Gras. Our co-founder, Kelly, and her family celebrate with traditions passed down by her grandfather's family in Louisiana. Mardi Gras can be a fun excuse for decorations, family dinner, lively music and a sweet treat! Are you ready to "let the good times roll"? Here are four simple steps to have your own Mardi Gras family night! 💜💛💚

1 \ Decorate with Mardi Gras colors. The story behind the colors is that purple represents justice, green represents faith, and gold represents power. Many stores carry small amounts of green, purple, and gold beads this time of year. You can also use masquerade masks, jester hats, and fleur-de-lis.

2 \ Plan a meal of Cajun Cuisine. You can be brave and try signature dishes like crawfish étouffée or jambalaya, or you can serve a classic, simple shrimp and sausage pasta or red beans and rice

3 \ Turn up some Zydeco. When you hear it, it just sounds like a Mardi Gras party. You can find a Zydeco station on most streaming music services. Turn it up and dance around the living room!

4 \ Serve King Cake. Even outside of the south you can sometimes find a ready-made King Cake at your local store. But making one at home is also easy! When we're pressed for time we love this semi-homemade version. Remember that whoever finds the baby is "crowned" with good luck!

Now you're ready to "laissez les bon temps rouler!" (let the good times roll)! If you're celebrating, but sure to tag us in your pictures. We're ready to let loose and #gowanderwild with your family.
